Portugal Golden Visa and Apostille

Do you need to apostille your documents for Portugal in order to obtain the Golden Visa?

The Portuguese Golden Visa is a residence permit program in Portugal that grants non-European Union citizens the right to live, work, and study in the country in exchange for a significant financial investment. There are several ways to qualify for the Golden Visa, including investing in real estate, creating jobs, or transferring funds to a Portuguese bank account. Once approved, the visa holder and their family can live in Portugal for up to five years, after which they can apply for permanent residency.

To use a document issued in the United States in Portugal, it may need to be authenticated with an apostille. An apostille is a form of authentication issued to documents for use in countries that participate in the Hague Apostille Convention of 1961.

The process for obtaining an apostille for a document issued in the United States will vary depending on the type of document and the issuing agency.

For example, if the document is a California birth certificate, it must be authenticated by the California Secretary of State’s office. If the document is a document issued by Federal agencies such as the FBI, it must be authenticated by the U.S. Department of State, Office of Authentications.  FBI Apostille for Portugal
