How to Apostille a U.S. Passport

U.S. Passport ApostilleWe provide fast Apostille service for a U.S. Passport issued by the Federal Government.  In order to authenticate your United States Passport, you will need to mail to our Washington, D.C. office your original Passport and not a copy.

If you are reluctant to mail your Passport to our Washington, D.C. office, you can meet with a local notary who will copy certify a color copy of your Passport.  Depending on the country, you may need to color copy each page of your Passport or just the page with your picture.  In most cases, it’s just the picture & signature.  Be sure to double-check with the requesting country in order to avoid any delays or additional costs.

It’s important to work with a professional notary with years of experience and one who will follow the notarial rules and guidelines in their State.  For example, in the State of California, a California Copy Certification by Document Custodian form will be used by the Notary.  In other States, they will have similar forms.

We have eight offices in the United States to serve you.  You can either mail your original Passport to our Washington, D.C. office for authentication through the Secretary of the District of Columbia or you can meet with a local notary to authenticate a color copy of your passport.  We recommend that you mail your original Passport to our Washington, DC office to avoid any delays.  We have a notary in D.C. to assist in the process of copy certifying your passport without any additional costs.

If the country requesting your Passport is not a member of the Hague Apostille Convention, then your documents may require further authentication through the U.S. Department of State in Washington, D.C. and legalization through the Embassy / Consulate office. Our Staff in D.C. can handle your Department of State certification and Embassy/ Consulate legalization requests quickly.

Apostilles can be complicated. Don’t leave this process to untrained employees or non-professionals who do not fully understand the Apostille process and the unique requirements of certain countries. Your paperwork could be rejected costing you time and money. Don’t let this happen to you!
