How to Apostille a Texas Birth Certificate

Do you need an apostille on your Texas Birth Certificate?

In order to apostille a Texas birth certificate, the certificate must be issued from the State, County, City, or local Registrar.  Please note that a birth certificate cannot be notarized.

Note: We recommend that birth certificates issued from the State of Texas be issued within the past five years.

There are several ways in which you can guarantee that the State will process your birth certificate:

  1. Obtain a certified copy from the State, County, City, or local Registrar
  2. Obtain a certified copy from the Texas State Vital Records office (State office).

If you do mail in a birth certificate older than five years, will will present your document to the State office for review.  If the State rejects your document, we will obtain the rejection letter and contact you the same-day.

If we do contact you regarding the rejection of your birth certificate, there are two steps you can take:

  1. You can order a new certified copy from the State, County, City, or local Registrar or online through http://www.VitalCheck.com (Best choice)
  2. Contact the Texas Vital Records Department for information.  (Can take a longer time if you go this route)
