Legalization Process – Embassy or Consulate

The process of legalizing documents for non Hague Apostille Countries is either a two or three step process.  The steps include State certification, US Department of State certification (if required), and Embassy or Consulate legalization. Depending on the jurisdiction of your documents, either the Embassy or the Consulate office will legalize your documents.

In addition to the steps mentioned above, some documents may require additional steps to complete (Example: Commercial Invoices and Certificate of Origin).

The actual number of steps would depend on the type of documents you, the State your documents originate from, and the country requesting your documents.

Some countries may also request additional documentation from you.  For example, some countries will require a copy of your US Passport or Driver License, while another country will ask for an authorization letter allowing us to represent you at the Embassy or Consulate office.  By working with a professional service company, you can rest assure that your documents will be processes quickly saving you time and money.

Certifying, attesting, and legalizing documents can be complicated. Certificate of Origin and Commercial Invoice Attestation

Have you been asked to have a Certificate of Origin and a Commercial Invoice attested for use in another country?

If you are planning to export goods into another country, you will be required to provide the necessary paperwork (Certificate of Origin and Commercial Invoice).

The most common countries to request these type of documents are: Qatar, Kuwait, United Arab Emirates (UAE), Iraq, Jordan, Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Oman, Libya, Yemen, Lebanon, Vietnam, and Iran.

Note: If the country requesting your documents is a member of the Hague Apostille Convention, then all your documents require is the State apostille.  Hague Apostille Member Countries

The requirements for every country is unique.  Some countries will request your documents to be notarized by the local Chamber of Commerce while others only require a company representative to sign the documents in front of a notary public.  Some countries will request the documents to be authenticated by the National U.S. Arab Chamber of Commerce while another will ask for the documents to be authenticated through a designated law office in Washington, D.C.
