How to Apostille a Background Check

We provide fast Apostille service for a Background Check issued from all 50 U.S. States including the Federal Government (FBI).

You have four available options when choosing which Government agency (City, County, State or Federal) to use in order to obtain a background check.  In most cases, the country requesting the Apostille for the Background Check will mention the government agency you should obtain it from.

Some countries will require an FBI Apostille Background Check.  We’ve noticed more and more countries requesting a Background Check Apostille from the FBI.  The first step in obtaining an FBI Background Check is to contact an FBI Channeler.

In this article, we’re going to focus more on obtaining a background check from the local Police Department, Local Sheriff’s Station, and the State’s Department of Justice (DOJ) – Office of the Attorney General.

Local Police Department Background Check – If the requesting country is content with a local Police Department background check, then all you need to do is have a letter drafted and notarized.  It’s important that the local notary notarized the Officer’s signature on the document and uses the correct notarial wording for that State.  Once complete, mail the notarized document to our office for processing.

Local Sheriffs Station Background Check –  If the requesting country is content with a local Sheriff’s Station background check, then all you need to do is have a letter drafted and notarized.  It’s important that the local notary notarized the Deputy’s signature on the document and uses the correct notarial wording for that State.  Once complete, mail the notarized document to our office for processing.

Department of Justice (DOJ) – Office of the Attorney General – Obtaining a background check from the State’s DOJ can be a little more complicated.  For example, if you are in California, you’ll need to contact the California Department of Justice (DOJ).  The Office of the Attorney General of your State will provide you step-by-step directions.

If you have already left the country, you can still obtain your background check.  You may need to seek the help of the local US Embassy in the country you are currently in or the local police department.  The local US Embassy can help you with your fingerprints and filling out any forms required to obtain your background check.  Also, the local police department can help you roll your fingerprints.

If the country requesting your Background Check is not a member of the Hague Apostille Convention, then the documents may require further authentication through the U.S. Department of State in Washington, D.C. and legalization through the Embassy / Consulate office. Our Staff in D.C. can handle your Department of State and legalization requests quickly.

Apostilles can be complicated. Don’t leave this process to untrained employees or non-professionals who do not fully understand the Apostille process and the unique requirements of certain countries. Your paperwork could be rejected costing you time and money. Don’t let this happen to you!
