An Apostille (pronounced “ah-po-steel”) is a French word meaning certification.  An Apostille is attached by the Secretary of State authenticated the signature of the official who signed your documents so they will be accepted the country who is a members of the Hague Apostille Convention.

All adoption programs require that your documents have either an apostille or a Certification.  A Certification is used instead of an Apostille for countries who are not members of the Hague Apostille Convention.  For example: China, Iran, Brazil, etc…

It’s important to gather all your important legal documents in order to avoid any delays.  This includes Birth Certificates, Marriage Certificate, Divorce Decree, Baptism Certificate, Deed of the House certified by the county, Bank Accounts, FBI background check, etc…  You’ll want to clarify what documents are being requested in order to avoid any delays.
